Enchanted Portals is an upcoming run and gun game by Xixo Games Studio. It gives a deeper look into the classic 2D animation art style, the myriad environments, and the cast of characters that players will meet: To show off some of the new changes, Xixo Game Studio released the following extended trailer. Platforming stages have been added in recent months, too, featuring a variety of “character-environment interactions to spice up the gameplay.” Namely, a “more diverse soundtrack” is in the works, allowing each world in Enchanted Portals to take advantage of a different style of music. Changes include making adjustments to gameplay speed, as well as emphasizing certain elements that will differentiate it from Studio MDHR Entertainment’s Cuphead. Over the last several months, Xixo Game Studio has been hard at work on improving Enchanted Portals. In a post on Enchanted Portals‘ Facebook page, the team explained that a return to crowdfunding “would grant more control over the project.” Such talks clearly didn’t pan out as the game returns to request crowdfunding.

The real reason why fans believe Enchanted Portals is stealing from Cuphead is due to its aesthetics, as it uses the same '30s cartoon style, except with a fantasy twist. A comment on the Facebook post indicates that they are current gauging interest before determining when to officially open the campaign, so if you’re interested, make sure to visit the page and click “Notify me on launch” to let the team know. This didn't sit well with many Cuphead fans, who took to Twitter to send angry messages to Xixo, the two-man team working on the game. This also showcases how other studios want to capture Cuphead's success. This game shows the popularity of Cuphead as a brand as well as the thirst fans have for new games that showcase the 1930's cartoon aesthetic. Take out Cuphead and switch in a different character, and you have Enchanted Portals. In this instance, I think 'Enchanted Portals' looks relatively well made and is a homage rather than a direct rip-off of Cuphead. Yesterday we shared the trailer for Enchanted Portals, which for all intents and purposes, is Cuphead made by a different company.
